Sunak Claims Delivery of 20,000 Extra Cops
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak claims to have delivered on a promise to deliver 20,000 “extra” police officers. Whilst the government might well have recruited 20,000 new police officers over the last few years, this must be put into proper context.
Between 2010 and 2017, Tory Home Secretary and former Prime Minister, Theresa May, who also tried to sabotage Brexit, reduced officer numbers by 20,500 so, these new officers are replacements, not “additional officers”.
